Assisi
St. Francis was a very influential and inspiring leader with servant heart values at the forefront of his life. Specific parts of his life that can have an impact on today's society would be giving up his wealth and earthly goods up so that he could serve those less fortunate. St. Francis cared for the sick and those who were pushed aside as outsiders and made them feel seen. Much of his life resembled Jesus in the way he cared for others such as caring for the lepers. His life is a demonstration of what we can all strive to be more like such as caring for others and not being worried about how we can personally benefit from it.
Servant leadership to me means that you put other people's needs above your own. As a servant leader you value service above status, being kind to all, and listen more than speak. A modern-day example of this that I see in my own life is the way my mom cares for me. She always goes above and beyond to make sure that I have everything that I need and doesn't think anything about her personal needs and desires. I strive to be more like her every single day because by being a servant leader you gain respect. People will see the way you value them and know that they are important in your eyes.
Some things that I noticed about Assisi compared to other places we have been is that it seems to be a little hillier with a little more hillside view. The streets were a lot narrower, and the buildings looked very old and beautiful. Assisi also seems to be a lot more peaceful which I think has something to do with how spiritually strong it felt. It is not a very busy city and is just very quiet and slow. I think it was great to visit other places in addition to Assisi because we could see the major differences between the cities we visited.
I ate with my friends for lunch and most of us got pizza. I was craving pizza all day so of course I ate the entire plate. My margherita pizza was so yummy and now I want pizza as I am writing this. What I want to remember most from visiting Assisi would be how powerful it was to be in the church of St. Francis and where he was buried. The church was so beautiful and seeing the frescoes on the walls telling of his life was so cool.
