Florence

Florence is full of beautiful architecture and history. Honestly, so far at least, I would say my favorite city we have visited has been Florence. I love the busier feel it has than Arezzo, but also the good chunk of history and other beautiful things to see. Each artwork was so powerful, but I think my favorite one to see was the David statue and also the other unfinished pieces that surrounded it. These pieces showed the hard work and grit that Michelangelo put into each of his pieces making sure they were beautiful while also depicting a significant moment in history that would touch the audience. Overall, everything in Florence was just breathtaking and amazing to see.

Each museum we went to was so amazing and special from the Duomo to the Uffizi gallery. The Duomo was so beautifully detailed from wall to wall and was so worth the climb to get to the top. The top of the dome depicting hell was touching and really tugged at my heart which I think is so cool how these talented artists were able to really make us feel from their work. Learning about the Medici family and how they were a huge part of helping support artists was interesting to hear. I think hearing about their leadership impact on the city of Florence and artwork overall was so inspiring. Sometimes I think people who are wealthy can be perceived as uninterested in things that may not necessarily benefit them, and I think it was cool to see how they were so passionate about art and wanted to help.

While on the tour today I had noticed the beautiful ceilings in each museum we went in. It is so interesting to me how they were able to paint such high ceilings so beautifully while also making sure if matches the inside of the buildings and adds style and color. It also was interesting to hear from our tour guide that each painting, sculpture, and other pieces of art tell a story. One thing I really loved hearing and never thought about was why David's hands were so big and that is because they are the hands of God. Each room we went in today was so mesmerizing and gave such a deeper meaning of each period in time and was really touching and eye opening to see the brutality during some periods such as the beheading room.

The city left me with a lasting impact of understanding art on a deeper level. Art is everywhere around me and sometimes I think I get so busy back home in America and forget to just stop and observe even the little details that mean so much. This is something overall that I have noticed about Italy, we are so nonstop going all of the time back home and most times never truly take in the present moment. I want this to be something I take back home with me. Being in Florence again today made me even more excited to see other pieces of art throughout the rest of our trip.
